Do I Need to Be Fit or Flexible to Start?

No. This is the single biggest myth about Pilates, and it stops a lot of people from trying. Pilates builds strength and flexibility over time, so you do not need either before you walk in. Reformer Pilates is especially good for beginners because the machine supports your body and lets you move through a controlled range. The instructor sets the resistance to suit you and offers an easier version of any movement you find hard. You work at your level, not someone else’s.

Will I Be the Only Beginner?

You will not be. Our classes are a mix of people at different stages, and on any given day there are others starting out just like you. Because classes are kept small, the instructor can keep an eye on your form and step in with a tip or an adjustment when you need it. There is no back row to hide in and no pressure to keep up with anyone. Most people are far too focused on their own reformer to notice what you are doing.

What Do I Wear and Bring?

Wear comfortable, form-fitting clothing so the instructor can see your posture and correct it if needed. Avoid loose, baggy tops that get in the way. You will need a pair of grip socks, which keep you stable on the reformer. If you do not own a pair, you can buy them at the studio. Bring a water bottle, and arrive five to ten minutes before your first class so the team can show you around and get you set up.

Is Pilates Safe for My Back or After Having Children?

For most people, yes, and it is often the reason they start. Reformer Pilates began as a rehabilitation method, and the equipment is designed for controlled, low-impact movement. If your main reason for starting is a sore back, our Pilates for Back Pain classes focus on strengthening the muscles that support your spine without straining it. If you are pregnant or recovering after birth, we run safe, paced sessions that work on the pelvic floor and core. Whatever your situation, tell the instructor before class so they can adjust the exercises for you. If you have a medical condition or recent injury, check with your doctor or physio first.

Your Beginner Pathway

You do not have to figure this out alone. Most new members follow a simple path that builds confidence step by step:

  1. Pilates for Beginners is your starting point. It is where you learn what Pilates is and how our classes work.
  2. The Pre-Pilates Orientation teaches you the reformer and the basic movements in a relaxed setting, so your first group class feels familiar.
  3. Slow and Go Classes run at a gentle pace with more time to focus on form. A good bridge before a faster class.
  4. Group Reformer Classes are where most members settle in, building strength week by week at a pace that suits them.

You can take as long as you like at each step. There is no rush to move up.

What Members Say

You do not have to take our word for it. Here is what a couple of our members have shared:

“Bella has made my Pre-Pilates classes, which I was originally very nervous about attending, something I look forward to every week.”

“The team is super lovely and supportive. It still has that same welcoming, family feel that drew me in the first time.”
